For hikers there are numerous trails ranging from 5 to 50 kilometers, which can be done directly from Essubras. From En Campagne it's a 4 km walk to the Butte Frochet, an exceptional nature. Major routes in the area are the GRP de la Mandragore (5 day hiking route of 96 km), the GR 48 (48 km from Availles-Limouzine to Rochechouart) and 40 km to the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela.
Montrol-Senard is an idyllic village 11 km from Essubras. It is a free to attend open air museum with an old school, a shoemaker and a bakery. Here you can see what country life was like around 1900. Click here to see the "guide de visite" (available only in French).
You will find our camping and gites close to Oradour-sur-Glane, the martyr village dedicated to the memory of the 642 men, women and children who were murdered by German SS on June 10, 1944. You can visit the village for free. Dogs are not allowed. Click here for opening hours.
On a "marché producteurs" local producers sell their meat, vegetables, snails, cheeses and homemade cakes to locals and visitors. There are stalls, refreshments, and long tables where you can eat. Often there is live music.
Within a half hour drive you will find Féeriland. In Féeriland you can have hours of fun with the whole family in a miniature world, a water garden with giant bamboos and play area with inflatables and family games. There is also a relaxation room with mini snack in July and August.

Les lacs de Haute-Charente are 32 km from Essubras .They have a surface of 350 ha and beautiful sandy beaches. There are plenty of opportunities for swimming, surfing, paddle boating, canoeing and sailing.

23 km from En Campagne the river Vienne offers canoeing and kayaking. From the camping in Exideuil to Manot is a journey of approximately 2.5 hours. In Manot you will be picked up and brought back to Exideuil.
In the picturesque medieval Confolens each year in the 2nd week of August, the festival "Danses et Musiques du Monde" is held, where all kinds of bands, orchestras, dance companies and street artists from all over the world perform. From Confolens you can follow the old train route in a bike train. This is a nice way to enjoy the beautiful country side. Five kilometers upstream is Saint-Germain-de-Confolens. From the beautiful castle ruin you get a breathtaking view of the valley. In high season all kinds of events are organised there.

chateau de la rochefoucauld
The La Rochefoucauld castle is considered one of the most interesting castles of France. It is still - and has been for more than a thousand years - in the possession of the family La Rochefoucauld. According to legend, the castle is haunted by the spirits of the fairy Melusine (who threw herself from the top of a tower) and those of the founding family. The castle is open to visitors 10 months a year.
