Camping and Gîtes "en Campagne". A mere four hours' drive from
Paris, the small hamlet of Essubras is part of the community of Saint-Christophe
and is located in the beautiful and hilly landscape of the Confolentais in the
Département of Charente-Limousine "en Campagne".
There’s a lot to

Your hosts are
Alex and Addy, who moved to France from Rotterdam in order to find a
more fulfilling way of life in a better climate!
We have always loved
France, so we decided that it was time for a change in our lives. We
discovered the wonders of the Charente Limousin and decided that this
was the place we wanted to be. We both love the outdoors and there is so
much to do here. We gladly want to introduce you in this
magnificent region! |

You will find the
hamlet of Essubras and our Camping and Gîtes, in the centre of Charente-Limousine
and the ‘Pays de la Mandragore’. It is the perfect starting point for
all your walking and cycle tours in the nearby… a beauty and hilly
area in the middle of the ‘Campagne’ that is just waiting to be
discovered.
Essubras is also
the starting point for a variety of walking, cycling and driving tours
throughout the Confolentais. As well as lying close to the famous
national walking trail GR 48, from the Camp Site there are at least 19
other trails to choose from (from between 10 and 50 kilometres, level 2
– 3) for your walking or cycling enjoyment and discovery. Needless to
say, all the necessary maps are available from Reception. |

The pays de la Mandragore in fact, is more than just a beautiful place
to be. It is also reputed to be the home of a legendary monster… the
Mandrake (or as the French call it, Mandragore)! In fact, the Mandrake
is a poisonous plant that originally comes from Southern Italy and
Greece. It possesses a root, once thought to resemble the human form and
is said to shriek when plucked! |

"En Campagne" is
surrounded by very peaceful undulating wooded hills and fields. It is
not densely populated, there being just small villages and hamlets and
no main roads to drown out the bird song and where just the stars light
up the night sky.
Together with the friendly local people, it
means you can enjoy your holiday in an unspoiled and unhurried way in a
place where time seems to stand still. |

Further
attractions of the Essubras region include lakes and rivers. These
feature excellent water quality and are ideal for swimming, rowing,
canoeing or wind surfing. But the swimming pool on the Camp Site is also
an ideal "playing" paradise.

For the more
energetic visitor there are also local facilities for tennis, rafting,
canoeing, racing on a circuit, cave exploration and abseiling.=
We have a special
room with much information of region. Walking and Cycling cards are
available.
In the restaurant you will find a
computer, where you can check your mail and send a message to your family
and friends if you want to. We have also installed WIFI, so that
you can work on your laptop while sitting on our terrace or in our
restaurant. |

The total "En Campagne"
property
covers 2.5
hectares, and features a large area
for campsite. The main
building of the complex is an old 17th century former farm house.
Which was enlarged and renovated after 1970 into a holiday centre. We
created, after extensive building and renovation works, in 2004 a
welcoming and comfortable environment of high quality: a gîte/apartment complex with
restaurant, terrace and a campsite. Five gîtes (apartments) are in the
main building and one gîte (cottage) is a 17 th century cottage
retaining many original features.

In the secondary
building is a ‘petit restaurant’’ – the Essubrasserie – where you can
enjoy a tasty yet simple meal.
There is also a shop, plus the residence and administrative facilities. |

You may come alone, with family or with a group. We can accommodate 20
persons. There is enough accommodation and privacy for all. |
|
At our cosy
restaurant
and terrace… the Essubrasserie you can find a wide selection
of wines, beers, liquor and soft drinks.
The ‘petit restaurant’ serves continental
breakfast and evening dinner (only
with pre-reservation)
as well as quick items (also for takeaway) such as French
fries,
snacks, omlettes..

meal
accompanied by a glass of regional Charentaise wine or a delicious Pineau des
Charentes? |

You will always
find a warm welcome at Camping & Gîtes “en campagne”.
However in the
low season is advisable to phone or e-mail us in advance to check
our opening times, or to check our website for the latest news!
It is advisable
to make reservations in high season to avoid disappointments.
But you are, of course always welcome, if we have place.
