Always something to do!

Whatever your age and whatever your interests…                                             at Camping & Gîtes " en Campagne", there is always something to do.

 Walking and cycling

The wonderful nature and landscape of the Charente-Limousine is the ideal place to be if you are looking to enjoy a walking or cycling holiday.

The Essubras Camp Site is located near the famous GR 48 trail that is described in the Guide du Routard. And for those looking to enjoy the flora and fauna, it is at its breathtaking best in the months of May, September and October. Like the locals, you can also pick your own raspberries, red and blackcurrants, nuts and chestnuts… they won’t taste like anything you’ll find at your supermarket back home! You can also pick your own mushrooms and other fungi (some are even ready in June!), and the local pharmacy is always happy to check that whatever is in your basket is safe for you to enjoy!

When the weather is a bit humid… that’s the time to look for snails! Mouth-watering with garlic butter.

Close to the Camp Site the small rivers La Marchadaine and Issoire are ideal for small children to paddle and play in.

Swimming, sunbathing and water sports

Near Essubras there are two lakes – Lac de Mas Chaban and Lac de Lavaud (400 hectares). These are ideal for swimming, sunbathing, fishing, windsurfing, sailing, canoeing and water bicycles. Boats and surf boards can be rented at the lakeside. Motorised boats are not always permitted, so it is best to check first (or ask at reception) for details.

For the little ones (todlers) we do have a small plastic pool as well.

Swimmingpool

 On the Camp Site you will find a large heated swimming pool (unsupervised) The depth of the water is 1,35 m and the surface is 36 m2), (attention: French law insists you keep an eye on your children as they swim).

Playground: You will find a sandpit, and a tent with all kind of toys for the children. For the slightly older (and more active) there is also a volleyball court, a table tennis table and a jeux de boules court. Inside, a dart board is provided, as well as a selection of games and books.

We have a close relationship with the owners of two nearby ( 4 km's) professional carp fishing lakes (10 ha. )  (up to 50 lbs). Daily and weekly tarifs available.

Fishing

Nearby the Camp Site you can fish in rivers like the Vienne, Issoire or La Marchadine. Fishing in the lakes is also usually permitted, but as most of them are private, permission from the owners must first be obtained (ask at reception for details to fish for a nice price at a nearby private lake). For the avid fisherman, the chance of catching good sized trout, carp and perch, as well as pike (which can weigh up to 25 kilos!) make Essubras an ideal holiday destination.

In the Vienne there are possibilities for rafting, wild water canoeing etc. We organise daytrips with a professional hire company.

In spring en autumn the Vienne is a 2-3 catogorie river. You can really indulge yourself!!

Other sports

 For the really active, Essubras can satisfy most tastes… with activities like tennis for only € 5,-/day, wild water canoeing, abseiling, cave exploration and horse riding all available close by.

Playing Golf, you will certainly do in a very relaxed way on probably one of the most beautifull golfcourts of france at a distance of only 15 kilometers away from our campsite and Gîtes, on "Golf de Saint Junien".  Nice to try to practice playing golf or just fill all the 18 holes with your eyes closed. Also for a good meal for reasonable prices your welcome on the Golfcourt.

You do'nt need to be member to play or practise Golf. For just a small donation you can hire all the required gear.

You will find more courts whitin a radius of  40 km. If you buy a golfpass, you can play each day on another court for a reasonable price. (we can help you with it , if you want)

By the way: a new golfcourt of 9 holes, is opened in november 2007 in Mortemart (at a distance of only 7 km from our campsite and gîtes) . They will enlarge the golf to 18 holes in 2008.

Do you want a bit of sensation at your holiday? You can go racing on a real circuit ! At 35 km for our campsite and gîtes you find "Circuit du Val de Vienne". You can race on a motorbike or in a race wagon. Look for more information on: www.circuit-valdevienne.com

A look into the past

Within a radius of about 10 kilometres from Essubras, you can experience a link with the past… the Roches du Fee, Le Chaos, and the Lac Fromental which all feature structures from the Gallic Roman times that incorporate stones from meteorites. Menhirs (prehistoric monumental stones) and dolmens (ancient megalithic tombs) are also to be found in the area.

On the old train rail you can discover the environnement.

Unique nature

 Nature lovers and amateur biologists will find a visit to the Fosses de L’Ermitage, Fosses du Diable and the Fosse Mobile in the Braconne woods (some 40 kilometres from Essubras), a must. These areas, created by falling meteorites and ground subsidence, are unique natural areas. They feature rare stones, flowers and plants (like the Drosera, Grassette du Portugal ferns). The animal and bird inhabitants also include the rare St. Martin buzzard. All these rare flora and fauna species flourish thanks to the sub-tropical micro climate which is to be found in these valleys.
